Gott released his debut studio album Melodiya in 1977 and it sold more than 5.5 million copies. Over the years he has had many successful albums and singles. Sometimes referred to as the “Sinatra of the East”, he was a romantic crooner who recorded hundreds of albums and performed all over the world. One of his biggest hits, “Maya the Bee”, was used as the theme song for a popular German cartoon show. Unfortunately, Karl Gott died on October 1, 2019 at the age of 80.
