Purdue’s board of directors approved the bankruptcy filing just days after reaching a tentative deal to settle the roughly 2,000 lawsuits against the company. Steve Miller, the chairman of Purdue’s board of directors issued the following statement: As part of the settlement, Purdue would be restructured into a public benefit trust. The settlement will cost the company’s owners, the Sackler family, about $10 billion. That works out to $3 billion from the family’s personal fortune and the sale of their UK based drug company Mundipharma.
